Postpaid mobile services will be restored in the remaining areas of Jammu and Kashmir from 12 noon today. This was stated by J&K Principal Secretary Rohit Kansal in Srinagar.

"A decision has now been taken to restore mobile phone facilities in the remaining areas of Jammu and Kashmir. More specifically all postpaid mobile phones, irrespective of the telecome service provider, will stand restored and will be functional from 12 noon on Monday the 14th of October 2019. This will cover all 10 districts of Kashmir province."

Mr Kansal, however, said that the subscribers will have to wait for some more time for Internet services to resume in the Kashmir Valley. Certain restrictions were imposed in the state as a precautionary measure after the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir on August 5th. Mr Kansal also said that 99 per cent of Jammu and Kashmir is now restriction free. He said, there has been gradual removal of restrictions since August 16. Partial landline service was resumed in the Valley on August 17, and by September 4 all landlines were made operational. The move comes barely days after the Centre issued an advisory opening the Valley for tourists.

In Jammu & Kashmir, an Army jawan was killed in Pakistani firing along Line of Control in Uri Sector of Baramulla district yesterday. Army sources said that Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked firing targeting Indian forward posts in Uri Sector of Baramulla district. Sources said Indian side is responding in a befitting manner.

Political parties have intensified campaign for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address an election rally in Ballabhgarh in Haryana today.

Our correspondent has filed this report:

"As only around seven days are left in polling in Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will campaign over the next few days. He will address four election rallies in Haryana. Today, he will address his first election rally in Ballabhgarh in Faridabad district. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi will also address a rally at Nuh in Mewat region today. As per the programme released by BJP, the National President of BJP, Amit Shah will also campaign in Tohana, Mallika village of Ellenabad and Narnaund area today, where he will address large public gatherings. Ashwani Kumar Sharma, AIR News, Chandigarh."

In Maharashtra, BJP intensified its campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Party President Amit Shah addressing a series of rallies yesterday. Senior BJP leaders are criss crossing the state to woo the voters. A report:

"BJP’s prominent leaders Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani and Yogi Adityanath will address rallies at various places in Maharashtra today. Rajnath Singh will address rallies at Charkop, Mira Road and Goregaon in Mumbai. While Smriti Irani will address rallies in Pune, Sangli and Ichalkaranji. UP Chief Minister Yogi Aadityanath will also address four rallies in Maharashtra. On the other hand, Congress Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergil and former Minister RPN Singh will address a press conference in Mumbai today. Shailesh Patil, AIR NEWS, MUMBAI."

Decreasing percentage of voting in Pune division has been a major challenge for the Maharashtra State election machinery, which is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the percentage increases in the ensuing state assembly elections. A report from our correspondent:

"In the 2014 State Assembly elections the voting percentage of the state was 63.38%, that of Pune Division was 68.61% while for Pune district it was 61.72%. The figures of voting percentage in the recent Lok Sabha elections were more alarming. The voting percentage of Pune district in this election was 57.65 while that of Pune city was 49.04. What was more alarming was that the percentage of voting was less in urban area than the rural areas. In order to increase the awareness among the voters to come forward to exercise their franchise and fulfill their national duty, various programmes like fairs, street plays, awareness teams are being organized in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the most-followed world leader on Instagram with over 30 million followers. Mr Modi is now the only world leader to reach the 30 million followers milestone on the social media platform.

He has surged well ahead of other global leaders like US President Donald Trump and his predecessor Barack Obama on Instagram.

Known for his ability to connect with the masses through social media, the Prime Minister made his debut on Instagram in November 2014.

The Supreme Court will resume the hearing of Ayodhya land dispute case on the 38th day today after the week-long Dussehra break.

A five-judge Constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, which started the day-to-day proceedings on the 6th of August, has already issued the deadline for wrapping up the proceedings.

Fixing the schedule for the final arguments, the bench had said that 17th of October would be the last day for wrapping up the hearing when all the parties will have to make the final arguments about the relief they are seeking. The judgment in the matter is likely to be pronounced by 17th of next month, the day the Chief Justice of India will demit the office.

The District Administration has imposed Section 144 in Ayodhya in anticipation of Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid dispute verdict and in view of the upcoming religious festivals. The order will remain in effect till 10th of December.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will inaugurate a conference on One Nation, One FASTag in New Delhi today. The conference will see the signing of MoUs with state departments and other agencies for bringing in a unified electronic tolling solution across the country. Another MoU will be signed between the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd and Goods and Services Tax Network for integration of FASTag with GST E-Way Bill System. The GST Council has already accorded in-principle approval for this integration.

State-owned Air India has said the aviation jet fuel payment issues are being sorted out and will be resolved soon with the oil PSUs. These companies have threatened to stop oil supplies to the national carrier at six key airports if it does not make monthly lump sum payment by Friday. The airline in statement also assured its customers of smooth operations, saying it has taken all the measures in this regard.

India and Sierra Leone signed six agreements including extending a credit line of 30 million US Dollars for rice cultivation. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio yesterday committed to further strengthening bilateral relations. Mr Naidu said :

"I would like to convey India's commitment to be a reliable partner of Sierra Leone in its development with joining. Our objective is to contribute to the capacity buildings, share skills and expertise and improve social and economic infrastructure as per the priorities of the government of Sierra Leone."

Mr. Naidu reached Freetown, capital of Sierra Leone for the second leg of his ongoing five-day visit to the West African countries yesterday.

The two sides agreed that the United Nations need to be reformed to reflect the realities of today and address current global challenges.

The Netherlands King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima arrived in New Delhi last night on a five-day visit to India. The King and Queen will visit New Delhi, Mumbai and Kerala during their visit. The visit is expected to boost economic and political cooperation between the two countries.

In Madhya Pradesh, the 10th edition of the Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav-National Cultural Festival is being organized by the Union Ministry of Culture from today to the 21st of October under the Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat campaign.

Governor Lalji Tandon and Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel will be present at the inaugural ceremony of the Festival being held in Jabalpur today. More from our correspondent:

"The National Cultural festival will display diverse forms of folk, art and culture of 22 states. The festival is being organized in Madhya Pradesh for the second time. This time the festival will be held in Sagar and Rewa apart from Jabalpur. Many famous artists like Suresh Wadkar, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Sabri Brothers, Shovana Narayan, Roopkumar and Sonali Rathore will perform the Jabalpur leg of the festival. Local artists will also get a chance to showcase their art. In Uttar Pradesh, a unique Deepotsav ritual called Aakash-deep started in Varanasi on the occasion of Sharad Poornima to pay tribute to the ancestors and  to remember the sacrifice of policemen in the state. A report --

"In the entire Varanasi city People hanged earthen lamps in a wooden basket called Aakashdeep at their rooftops, near rivers, ponds and on trees to pay tribute to their ancestors and also to the police personnel who laid their lives in the line of duty. The ritual lamp lighting started at Dashashwamedh ghat where 101 earthen lamps were lit and floated into holy Ganga yesterday evening in the memory of bravehearts. State Minister for Tourism and Local MLA Neelkanth Tiwari lit the first lamp and later hundreds of Aakashdeep, hanging lamps were lit at various ghats. local people and senior police officers attended the function and police bands were also played. Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has said that he will press for an European Union ban on arms sales to Turkey, as Ankara pressed its attack on Kurdish forces in northern Syria. He was speaking ahead of a meeting of the European Union's Foreign Affairs Committee on the issue  in Luxembourg today and a day after both France and Germany joined a list of countries halting arms supplies to Turkey.

Several European countries, including Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway have already announced a halt in arms supplies to Turkey.

The third and final One-Day International match between the women's cricket teams of India and South Africa will be played in Vadodara today. The Indian team has already clinched the series with two consecutive wins. The hosts won the first match by eight wickets and the second match by five wickets.

In Hockey, the Indian junior team trounced New Zealand 8-2 in their second match of 9th Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor, Bahru yesterday. It was India's second win in the tournament and they face Japan in their next round robin league-stage match tomorrow.
