THE HEADLINES:-
  • BJP led National Democratic Alliance appears to be heading for a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
  • BJP wins 109 constituencies; leading in 194 Congress bags 26 seats while leading in 25.
  • The Prime Minister wins Varanasi seat with a big margin; Congress President Rahul Gandhi leading in Wayanad while trailing in Amethi from Union Minister Smriti Irani; UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi wins from Raebareli.

BJP led National Democratic Alliance appears to be heading for a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha elections. The NDA is expected to form the government at the centre for a second term. 

BJP itself has so far won 109 seats and is leading in 194 others. In the 543 member Lok Sabha, elections were held for 542 seats as poll was cancelled in Vellore constituency in Tamil Nadu by the Election Commission on charges of invovement of money power.

The Congress has bagged 26 seats and is leading in 25.

Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won from Varanasi by over 4,79,000 votes. He has surpassed his previous margin of 3,71,784 votes in 2014 parliamentary elections. He defeated SP-BSP-RLD alliance candidate Shalini Yadav who secured one lakh 95 thousand votes. Congress candidate Ajay Rai remained in third place getting 1,52,000 votes. BJP President Amit Shah is leading in Gandhinagar constituency by over  5 lakh 50 thousand votes. Congress President Rahul Gandhi is leading in Wayanad constituency in Kerala while he is trailing in Amethi from BJP Minister Smriti Irani. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi wins from Raebareli.

Other prominent candidates who are leading include Union Ministers Rajnath Singh in Lucknow,  Nitin Gadhkari from Nagpur, Mahesh Sharma in Gautam Budha Nagar, General V.K.Singh in Ghaziabad.  Shashi Tharoor in Thiruvananthapuram, Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party in Azamgarh.

In Karnataka, BJP has won 22 seats and is leading in 3 others. Out of 28 seats the Congress party and JDS have won one seat each.

Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily, has lost in Chikballapur while, former Prime Minsiter H.D. Devegowda lost from Tumkur.  Mallikarjuna Kharge of Congress is trailing in Kolar.

"The Modi fans wearing masks and customised T-shirts danced to the beating of drums and burst crackers after the spectacular win. Congress leaders have submitted to the outcome.  The question on the lips of everyone now is whether the coalition government that has completed one year today will survive. In the Assembly by-poll, Congress has won Kundgol and BJP the Chincholi seat. This has increased BJP strength by a seat to reach 105 in the state Legislative Assembly.  The Congress-JD(S) coalition government now has a strength of 116 in a House of 224 members. 113 is the magic number. In Andhra Pradesh, out of 25 parliamentary seats, YSR Congress is ahead in 22 seats and Telugu Desam Party in three seats.

In Telangana, out of 17 seats, TRS has won 4 seats and is leading in 5 others.  BJP has won 1 seat and is leading in 3. Congress has won 1 seat and  leading in 2 seats. 

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK-Congress combine is maintaining a lead of 36 of the 38 seats. DMK has been declared victorious from Nilgiri seat. AIADMK is leading in Theni seat. 

In Kerala, Congress has won 9 seats and is leading in 6 seatsOut of 20 seats, IUML is leading in 2 seats.  KCM, RSP and CPM are leading in one seat each. Congress has secured Alathur, Chalakudy, Ernakulum, Kasaragod, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Idukki,  Thrissur and Palakkad seats.



In Gujarat, BJP is likely to repeat its 2014 performance as the party has won Rajkot seat and  leading in remaining 25 parliamentary constituencies of the state. 

In Haryana, BJP candidates are sweeping all the 10 Lok Sabha seats.

In Punjab, BJP ally Shiromani Akali Dal has retained Firozpur Lok Sabha seat while Congress won Anandpur Sahib seat. SAD candidate Sukhbir Singh Badal has defeated Congress candidate Sher Singh Ghubaya. Former Union Minister Manish Tewari of Congress has won Anandpur Sahib seat defeating SAD candidate Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra. Punjab Chief Minister Amrinder Singh's wife Parneet Kaur has won from Patiala constituency.In Chandigarh, Kirron Kher of BJP is leading against Pawan Kumar Bansal of Congress.

In Himachal Pradesh, the ruling BJP has retained two Lok Sabha seats of Shimla and Mandi and is leading on remaining two seats. 

On Uttar Pradesh, we have a report from our Lucknow correspondent:-

" Home Minister Rajnath Singh is  getting decisive lead in Lucknow. Union Ministers General VK Sing, Mahesh Sharma, Sadhwi Niranjan Jyoti and Smriti Irani are heading for victory. SP-BSP-RLD alliance could not give tuff fight to the BJP but Samajwadi prarty chief Akhilesh Yadav and party patriarch Mulayam Sing Yadava and going to win easily. Dimple Yadav, wife of Akhilesh Yadav is trailing from Kannauj. On Muzaffar Nagar and Baghpat seats RLD chief Ajit Singh and his son Jayant Chaudhry is getting Tough fight from BJP leaders Sanjiov Baliyan and Styapal singh. Congress manages to get only one lead in Raibareli from where UPA chairperson Soniya Gandhi is candidate. Surprising situation is in Ghazipur where union Minister Manoj sinha is trailing.  Sushil Chandra, AIR NEWS  LUCKNOW.

In Rajasthan, Union Minister Col. Rajyawardhan Rathore of BJP is leading from Jaipur Rural constituency.

"BJP candidate on Bhilwara Seat Subhash Chandra Bahedia registered biggest victory by a margin of 6 lakh 12 thousand votes. Two more BJP candidates are won with more than 5 lakh votes, while 5 candidates leading or have won by more than 4 lakh votes. Many prominent leaders of congress got defeated and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot could not even manage to get victory of his son Vaibhav Gehlot. - Jitendra Dwivedi, AIR News, Jaipur.

BJP is leading on all seven seats in Delhi.

In Ladakh, an Independent Sajjad Hussain is trailing by 9763 votes against BJP candidate Jamyang Tsering Namgyal.

In Chhattisgarh, Vijay Bhagel of BJP in Durg constituency and Jyotsna Charandas Mahant of Congress in Korba constituency are leading.

In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has won five seats while Congress bagged one out of six results declared so far. BJP is leading in all the remaining 23 seats of the state.

"In Madhya Pradesh,in seven seats the victory margin is above 4 lakh votes and in another 8 seats the victory margin is above 3 lakh votes. BJP is leading by more than 2 lakh votes in 21 seats.  The three seats where victory margin of BJP is above 5 lakh votes are Hoshangabad, Indore and Vidisha. Even Congress stalwarts like Jyotiraditya Scindia and Digvijay Singh defeated by 1.24 lakh and 3.54 lakh votes respectively. Sanjeev Sharma, AIR News, Bhopal."

In Andaman & Nicobar Islands, BJP is leading in the lone seat.

Counting of votes for four assemblies of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha Sikkim and for Tamil Nadu by poll is on. 

In Arunachal Pradesh, BJP has won 16 assembly seats and is leading in 10 while JDU has bagged 3 seats and is leading in one. Congress has won 3 seats. Independents have got one seat and are leading in one more.

In Sikkim, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has won 10 seats and is leading in  3 while SDF has bagged 5 seats and leading in 4 per latest trends. Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has won the assembly election from Poklok Kamrang seat by a margin of 2899 votes. He is leading from Namchi Singhithang seat also.

In Odisha, BJD is leading in 106 seats in the 146 member assembly. BJP is leading in 23, Congress in 15 and others 2. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is leading from Bijepur.



In Andhra Pradesh, YSRCP has won 8 seats and  is leading in 141 seats while TDP has bagged one seat and is leading in 24. Janasena Party is leading in one seat. Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu is  leading from Kuppam while his son Nara Lokesh is trailing from Mangalagiri. YSRCP President Jagan Mohan Reddy is leading in Pulivendla.

Jaganmohan Reddy-led YSR Congress is heading for a landslide win in the Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh. TDP President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandra Babu Naidu has resigned from his post following his party’s defeat in the polls. Mr Naidu’s resignation was accepted by Governor ESL Narasimhan who has requested him to continue as caretaker Chief Minister till the new government is formed.

In Tamil Nadu by poll, DMK has bagged one seat and  leading in 12 seats while  AIADMK has got one seat and is leading in 8.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today termed his party's victory as the victory of democracy. Addressing a gathering at party headquarters in New Delhi, he said this is democracy's biggest event. Mr Modi dedicated this victory to the people saying it is a mandate for a new India.

"मैं भारत के एक सौ 30 करोड़ नागरिकों का सर झुकाकर के नमन करता हूं। 2019 का ये जो मतदान का सिर्फ आंकड़ा है। ये अपने आप में लोकतांत्रिक विश्व के इतिहास कीसबसे बड़ी घटना है। देश के सामान्य नागरिक की भावना भारत के उज्जवल भविष्य की गारंटी है।"

Earlier in a tweet, the Prime Minister said, India has won yet again following Lok Sabha poll verdict. Mr Modi said, the faith placed by the people in their alliance gives them strength to work even harder to fulfill people's aspirations. He congratulated Odisha Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik and YSR Congress Chief Jaganmohan Reddy for the victory of their parties in the state assembly elections.

BJP President Amit Shah has termed the victory of BJP as historic. Addressing party workers at BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Mr Shah said, this victory belongs to Party workers who toiled hard at every level to make it possible.

विजय जो है देश की जनता की विजय है। भारतीय जनता पार्टी के काम करने वाले 11 करोड़ कार्यकताओं के परिश्रम की विजय है। ये विजय है भारतीय जनता पार्टी की मोदीसरकार जिन नीतियों के आधार पर काम किया। सबका साथ सबका विकास की नीति की विजय है।

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his victory in the Lok Sabha polls. Addressing the media in New Delhi, Mr. Gandhi said, Congress party respects the people's mandate.

"जनता मालिक है और मालिक ने आर्डर दिया है। तो मैं सबसे पहले नरेन्द्र मोदी जी कोबीजेपी को बधाई देना चाहता हूं। अमेठी के नतीजे को मैं कहना चाहूंगा कि स्मृतिईरानी जी जीती हैं। उनको मैं बधाई देना चाहता हूं। अमेठी की जनता ने अपना डिसिजन लिया है और मैं उस डिसिजन का रिसपैक्ट करता हूं।"

Several World leaders including Chinese President Xi Jinping Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena have congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the impressive election victory.



French President Emmanuel Macron also greeted the Prime Minister over telephone.
