  • BJP National Convention begins in New Delhi; Party Chief Amit Shah says BJP is making efforts to resolve Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit case swiftly in Supreme Court.

BJP President Amit Shah has said the party is making efforts so that the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit case in the Supreme Court is resolved swiftly. He accused Congress of obstructing quick resolution of the matter in the apex court. He was  speaking at the two-day BJP National Convention at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi today.  Amit Shah reiterated that the party is committed to the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya through Constitutional means. 

"2014 के चुनाव घोषणा पत्र के अंदर हमने रामजन् भूमि के लिए एक वादा किया। भारतीय जनता पार्टी चाहती है कि उसी स्थान पर जल् से जल्  भव् राम मन्दिर का निर्माण हो उसमें कोई दुविधा नहीं। सुप्रीम कोर्ट में केस चल रहा है, हम प्रयास कर रहे हैं कि जल् से जल् केस का निपटारा हो। हमने कहा है कि संवैधानिक रूप से राम मन्दिर का निर्माण होगा।

The BJP President described the proposed grand alliance of Opposition parties as a mirage. He said it will not come in the way of the BJP returning to power again at the Centre.

Amit Shah asked BJP workers to explain to voters salient features of government's welfare schemes and carry forward the development journey of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked them to expand BJP's footprints in the country and resolve to realise a New India.

BJP Chief said the bill providing 10 per cent reservation in jobs and education to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) among upper castes will benefit crores of youth. He accused the Congress of playing politics over the government's initiative which has been pending for years.

Seeking another term for BJP-led government at the Centre, he termed the present dispensation as transparent, corruption-free, decisive and sensitive. He assured the nation that economic offenders, such as Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya will be brought back to the country to face the law.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Cabinet ministers, BJP Chief Ministers, MPs and senior party leaders are among those present at the Convention. Around 12 thousand delegates from across the country are attending the event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the  concluding session tomorrow.


An agreement on Renukaji Dam Multipurpose Project was signed in the national capital today between the Centre and the states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. The agreement was signed in the presence of Water Resources and River Development Minister Nitin Gadkari and Chief Ministers of all the six states.

Under the agreement three storage projects are proposed to be constructed on the river Yamuna and two of its tributaries - Tons and Giri in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. These include Lakhwar project on river Yamuna in Uttarakhand, Kishau on river Tons in Uttarakhand and  Himachal Pradesh and Renukaji on river Giri in Himachal Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gadkari said, the project will meet the drinking water and irrigation needs of these states. He said water dispute between states will also end after the completion of the project.

"पेयजल की जो समस्या है विशेष रूप से राजस्थान और दिल्ली इनके लिए बहुत बड़ी राहत मिल जाएगी।  दिल्ली में आने वाले 50 साल तक पीने के पानी की कोई समस्या नहीं रहेगी और राजस्थान जो टेलएंड पर है उनको काफी बड़े प्रमाण पर पीने के पानी की समस्या भी सुलझाई जाएगी और खेती के लिए भी पानी मिलेगा। देरी से क्यों हो सभी राज् सरकार के सहयोग से एक अच्छी एचीवमेंट आज हुई है।"


The special CBI court at Panchkula today convicted self-styled godman Gurmit Ram Rahim and three others in journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case. Special CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh convicted Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Krishan Lal, Nirmal and Kuldeep Singh under section 302 and 120-B of Indian Penal Code.

The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on January 17th.


Former CBI Chief Alok Verma submitted his resignation from service today. A 1979-batch IPS officer from AGMUT cadre, Verma, was transferred from the position of CBI Director to Director General, Fire Service, Civil Defence and Home Guards under the home ministry yesterday. The move came after a high powered selection committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Justice A K Sikri and leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, in a split verdict, decided to transfer him 21 days ahead of the completion of his tenure.


The Delhi High Court today refused to quash the FIR lodged against CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana on bribery allegations. It also vacated its interim order granting protection to Asthana against criminal proceedings. The court directed the CBI to complete investigation in case against Asthana and others within 10 weeks.

Asthana was booked on charges of criminal conspiracy, corruption and criminal misconduct under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act. 


Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman, Dr K Sivan has said ISRO is well prepared to meet the targets of launching Gaganyaan manned mission to outer space by December 2021. Addressing Media in Bengaluru today, Dr. Sivan said, a human space centre has been setup for this mission. He said under the mission three astronauts will be sent to outer space for seven days. Dr Sivan said, 332 launches including Chandrayaaan -2 mission moon are planned this year.

"Chandrayaan two targeted to be launched in mid April  is set to create history by exploring south pole of Moon. India will be the first country in the world to soft land  near the south pole of lunar surface and deploy a Rover. The six wheeled Rover will move around the surface of the moon and send back data for the analysis of the lunar soil. ISRO is also working out modalities for training astronauts for Gaganyaan mission in collaboration with Indian Air Force and Russia. Another interesting development is that the launch of GSAT 20 communication satellite that will provide 100 giga byte per second band width internet in North East and Jammu and Kashmir. In Jammu and Kashmir an Improvised Explosive Device explosion took place near LoC in Naushera Sector of Rajouri district in which an Army Officer and a soldier were martyred.

In another incident of unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops in Sunderbani Sector of Rajouri district, an Army Porter  was shot at & grievously injured. The individual was provided immediate resuscitation and medical aid, however, he later succumbed to the injuries. The Army authorities have promised all possible assistance to the family of martyred Army Porter.


India today reiterated that peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan should be Afghan-led, Aghan-owned and Afghan-controlled. It said there is no change in India's policy on Afghanistan.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met Mr. Zalmay Khalilzad, US Special Representative for Afghan Reconciliation yesterday.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, both sides shared their perspective on peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.


US President Donald Trump today assured H-1B visa holders, an overwhelming majority of whom are Indian IT professionals, that his administration will soon bring changes that will give them certainty to stay in America and a "potential path to citizenship".

Trump today tweeted that his administration is planning an overhaul of US policies on H-1B visa and will encourage talented and highly-skilled people to pursue career options in the US.


Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul have been suspended today pending an inquiry into their comments on women during a TV show.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai said the cricketers will be sent back on the first available flight. They were omitted from the line-up for the opening match of the ODI series between India and Australia to be played in Sydney tomorrow. The decision to hand them suspensions came after Rai's CoA colleague Diana Edulji recommended suspension till further action against the two.


India will take on Australia in the first game of the three match One-Day International (ODI) series in Sydney tomorrow. The match will begin at 7.50 am Indian Standard Time. India would be high on confidence after having lifted their first Border-Gavaskar Test trophy on the Australian soil.

The Indian team management is yet to announce the shortlist for the game. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to return to this format after being dropped initially for the  Australian tour.


In Khelo India Youth Games, Odisha and Haryana advanced to the hockey semi-finals winning their respective Pool B matches in the Under-21 men's category today. The matches will be played on Sunday. Haryana beat Maharashtra while Odisha defeated Jharkhand.  Tomorrow, semi-final matches of the Under-17 Men's competition will be held, where Odisha will take on Punjab, while Uttar Pradesh will be up against Haryana.

In other events in Pune, Shrishti from Uttar Pradesh won the Gold medal in girls under 17 in 55 kg category of weightlifting. Anai Wangsu from Arunachal Pradesh won silver and Bibari Boro from Assam claimed bronze. In girls under 21 category in weightlifting, S.Bindyarani from Manipur bagged Gold medal while silver went to Gauri Pandey from Uttar Pradesh. Bronze also went to Uttar Pradesh in this category.Telangana's Dhanush Srikant claimed gold in men's under-21 10m air rifle final. He upstaged two-time Junior World Cup bronze medallist Arjun Babuta of Punjab. Goa's Yash Yogesh earned silver. Babuta was third in qualification and remained in that spot in the final.


In the Premier Badminton League the first semi-final between table toppers Awadhe Warriors and hosts Bengaluru Raptors at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru is currently underway.

The second semi-final will be played tomorrow between defending champions Hyderabad Hunters and Mumbai Rockets at the same venue.


The BSE Sensex today retreated for the second straight day. Both indices lost around point 3 percent amid other positive Asian markets. The Rupee also weakened nine paise against the dollar.

"The Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 97 points to close at 36,010. The Nifty at National Stock Exchange also slipped 27 points to end at 10,795.

The rupee also weakened by nine paise to 70 rupees and 50 paise against the US dollar.
