In Sri Lanka, an opposition party submitted a no confidence motion against the government over Easter Sunday attacks as several programmes were organized to mark one month of the incident which killed over 250 people including 45 foreigners.

Janatha Vimukthi Peremuna (JVP) brought the motion against the entire government including President, Prime Minister and the Cabinet of Ministers for failing to take measures to prevent the attacks despite information regarding the attacks.

JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said the Easter attacks did not happen all of a sudden and the Government was aware of these terrorists. He said foreign intelligence services had informed the government about everything just a few days before the attacks and had the Government acted responsibly, the attack could have been prevented.

Sri Lankan government had accepted the lapse on part of security agencies for failing to act on intelligence shared by India. Meanwhile, several programmes were held today to commemorate those killed in the attacks.

People lit candles at churches and other religious places to remember their friends and relatives, who became victims of the attacks. Some Christian schools also reopened today for the first time after attacks while Universities have started announcing recommencement.

In related development, DNA analysis has confirmed that Zahran Hashim, the alleged mastermind behind the attacks, was involved and killed in the suicide attack at the Shangri-La hotel in Colombo. Government Analyst’s Department stated that the DNA samples collected from his body parts matched with the blood sample collected from his daughter.
