Amidst reports of escalating tension in the Arab region, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has informed the United Nations Security Council that it will take urgent and timely measures to deter such terrorist attack of the Iran-backed Houthi militia on Abha International Airport in Asir province.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, a letter was sent by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Moallemi, to the UN Security Council following the attack.

On 12th  June 2019, a hostile missile allegedly fired by the Iran-backed Houthi militia hit the arrivals lounge at Abha International Airport, in Asir province in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The attack resulted in the injury of at least 26 civilian passengers including three women from Yemen, Indian and Saudi nationalities, as well as two Saudi children. The Iran-backed terrorist Houthi group claimed, through its media, responsibility for this attack by use of a rocket-type cruise.

Meanwhile, the Saudi Press Agency has reported that the Royal Saudi Air Defense Force and Air Force have successfully intercepted and dropped five unmanned drone aircraft launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia on Friday morning as well. This is the second attack within a span of two days.
